Last Year saw the first Unicorn Petersfield Darts Academy Player of the Year become our inaugral member of Unicorns Generation 180. This award went to Harry Annals and I am pleased to announce that after a short wait his very own signature Darts are available to purchase. As well as becoming a part of Team Unicorn alongside, Phil Taylor, John Lowe, Raymond van Barneveld, Bob Anderson and the Academy's President James Wade to name but a few, Harry has had his very own Signature darts designed and manufactured by Unicorn. I am pleased to say that these darts are now available to purchase from all good online darts retailers. Click the picture of Harry above to see a full profile on the Unicorn website

Night of Darts; Krispy Visits Portsmouth for The Untouchables

It’s the day after my night at the Modus ‘Untouchables’ darts exhibition, and my head is now hopefully clear enough to write down some thoughts    Yes I may have had a beer or two.. possibly more!

Firstly I have to thank Jason Thame at Modus for inviting me along, and making sure I had a cracking seat to get some photos!   Also special thanks to Kay and Janet, who drove from the Black Country to drive me down to Portsmouth – legends!

Three and a bit hours in the car and I was thirsty, so I nipped to the pub for a few pints of real ale before the ladies joined me (it seems women don’t see a spray of Hugo Boss as ‘getting ready’ like us blokes do! haha).   We jumped into a taxi and arrived at the venue about 30 mins after doors opened.  The VIP area was set aside a little from the main room, and we were greeted by Jason and Lewis of Modus, and made to feel welcome.

The players were all in attendance, and I got to speak to James Wade’s lovely girlfriend Gemma again.   Luckily there was a bit of a spread too – as the beers were going down a bit too fast.  So a few emergency sandwiches later we headed into the main hall to take our seats, and what seats they where!  Jason had put us in what I always think is the best spot at any darts tournament, front table to the right of the oche.  Fantastic stuff.

I must say I was really impressed with the whole set-up – Modus had not skimped on any angle.  As well as a great line-up of players (the legend Andy Fordham was there, but didn’t actually play).  They hired several of the PDC security you see at the TV events, Sky Sports commentator John Gwynne to work the microphone, top darts Ref George Noble to keep an eye on things, and of course two of the top walk on girls!   The stage was very smart and professional looking, with flat screen tvs for scores and averages, larger projection screens to help those at the back see, although I was so close at the front there was no need for them.  Add in the fact that due to Simon Whitlock’s foot injury, they flew in Co Stompe to fill his place, and Stompe was in great form!

Co was treated like a good in Portsmouth – his whole “play up Stompe” chant obviously going down well with the locals.  When he reached the stage for his game he whipped off his normal darts shirt to reveal a Portsmouth football shirt, with ‘180‘  and ‘Play up Stompe‘ emblazed on back.  A very nice touch which really got the crowd going.

I’m not sure how many people were there, but the tickets were a sell-out, and the room was buzzing.  The venue was big enough to hold us all comfortably though, and there were several bars so getting a drink wasn’t too slow!

While I did watch pretty much all the arras, I nipped off to the VIP room for a beers every now n then, and good job too, else I wouldn’t have got the chance to chat with Nicola Cowell and Erica Wild!

Nicola C. tells me that she’s now staying in the UK (the reason she’s been off our TV screens was that she had moved to Australia).  So the Aussie’s loss is our gain – and I’m sure that’s one us lads are happy to have won!  I also know that the ‘other Nicola’ – Brunette Nicola Moriaty is also back looking for work after a  break – how good would it be to see the two Nicola’s back in partnership?

Game of the night was Barney vs. Wade – both players hit top gear, and averaged 100.  Barney just had too much tho, and he went on to win the night, taking out Adrian Lewis 5-4.

If I get the chance, I’ll definitely want to go again next year – highly recommended!  Modus do have another exhibition planned; The Ashes of Darts, with Wade & Jenkins vs Whitlock and Nicholson, and you can get tickets now.

This year has been a year of mixed fortunes for the academy, our numbers have
shrunk slightly due to having lost some of the more senior members some through
now being to old to continue with us and others have left us for the right
reasons as they wanted to continue they darting careers by playing league darts.
2011 has seen our first inductee Harry Annals enrolled into unicorns generation
180 catergory. This is a great achievement not only for Harry but also for the
academy to be regognised for its support and encouragement of youth darts in the
south of the country. 2011 also saw us play 2 friendly games against Hampshire
Youth both of which we lost narrowly, again for most of our members this would
have been the first time that they will have played on a stage in front of lots
of spectators and we hope that with the experience they gained through this we
can organise more games against other countys in the near future. We now have 6
members of the academy playing county youth darts 5 for hampshire and 1 for
sussex, we hope that we can continue to provide players for the county teams and
that they have great success with those teams to which they belong. Some of our
members played on the Unicorn Youth tour this year with mixed fortunes and we
hope that 2012 will see them competing at more of the events and make an impact
on the national youth game.
Presentation evening was on Monday 19th December and we were fortunate to have
with us from Unicorn Darts Peter Johnson to make the presentations. With over 30
awards to make it was nice to see that this year everyone won something, this i
think you would agree shows that the darting gaps between our members is now
decreasing and that everyone is playing at a much higher standard compared to
last year. Presentation evening saw the 2nd member of the academy enrolled into
generation 180 and this years winner has not only showed his commitment to the
academy, but has also become a regular part of the county youth team and
consistently won man of the match awards playing with a near 25 average. He has
also outside of the academy being playing in local leagues becoming one of the
top 5 players in the local petersfield league but also a regular performer at
super league as well. So the Unicorn Petersfield Darts Academy Player of the
YEar and Winner of the Generation 180 Award Jack Marriner.
We look forward to everything that 2012 has to offer and with the re structure
of the committee that is ped i am hoping that this will free up my time more to
concentrate on developing the academy behind the scenes working on various ideas
with the many different people we have links with. We are in 2012 going to be
holding a super league style singles league which is open to not only members of
the academy but anyone else that wishes to enter it. Full details of all our
events can be found on our websitewww.petersfieldacademy.co.uk. I would like to
take this oppertunity to thank Unicorn for once again supporting the academy
this year and hope that we can continue to develop our relationship in 2012,
without Unicorns support and backing we would not be able to be in the position
we are in helping the youngsters to develop their not only darting careers but
their personal development away from darts.
Happy Darting and good luck to all in 2012 Love Darts - Live Darts - Play Darts
